The carbs are spaced at 160 mm on the center. These require our 100-1217 kit. Later CX500s with accelerator pumps (spaced at 160 mm on center) and all GL500s. All GL500 carbs are close-spaced at only 100mm on center and the carbs are parallel. These require our 100-1218 kit. All CX650s have carbs mounted on an angled bracket (not parallel).

CX500 HISTORY: FIVE FANTASTIC YEARS. The first models were exported throughout the world in 1978 and that model became known for its single front disc and thin forks. But at least that disc was all of 270mm diameter and the pad area was plenty big so the stopping was fine. The Australian price was just over $2200. Honda CX 500 Custom is produced in 1981-82. Engine is Four stroke, longitudinal 800 V-twin cylinder, camshaft nestles at the base of the V between the cylinders. ,OHV, 4 valves per cylinder operated by pushrods, displacement 497 cc / 30.3 cu-in , produces power 50 hp / 37.2 kW @ 9000 rpm and 46 Nm / 33.9 lb-ft @ 7000 rpm.

Yes, use 10w40, but use a synthetic, not a old-school petroleum-based product like Rotella. You can use Motor Oil in your CX/GL.

I used a piece of sheetrock strapping and painted it "chrome" to fit my soon to be ex aftermarket mufflers. Four wheels move the body; Two wheels move the Soul. 1978 CX500 X 2 1982 GL500I 1983 GL650I and 1 standard. I live on a one-way street that's also a dead end.

Reinsert the assembly into the tank. (being careful not to damage the "fill pipe/strainer" during insertion) Orient the petcock and tighten the petcock locknut - securing the petcock to the tank. Set the petcock to the "OFF" position. Fill tank with one half gallon of gas and check for leaks. DONE.

Service was good and plug was $8-9. 1980 Honda CX 500, Black 42xxx Miles. Age 57, the CX is 34 Yrs Old. Stock except for the Harley Mufflers.
