I believe the Dark Silver Tracer has the highest crit value in the game with the Bandit Knife being second highest. Well, highest riposte/backstab damage is gonna be different than highest critical damage. And weapons like Estoc and Rapier have hidden critical modifiers as well. Highest damage is gonna be like, a crystal/buffed demon hammer, or Midroll is viable if you use it conservatively, but fat rolling makes you a prime target for backstabbing, If you're gonna fat roll then consider equiping a piece of the armor of thorns set to hopefully cancel out their backstab or carry a fast weapon, preferably with wide horizontal attacks. Boards. Dark Souls. So I've beaten Smough + Ernstein without knowing how to backstab Thekiller37 10 years ago #1. And I just finally learned how today >_>. I was always wondering how I couldn't ever get the animation to occur. Apparently you have to manually lower what's in the left hand before attacking. A good place to practice backstabs is on the Black Knights in Anor Londo. Lock on, circle their weapon side, and attempt to backstab. Once you practice on these guys, you'll notice the window for a backstab isn't really to be directly behind them, but kind of behind their shoulder. #2.

Here's some thngs that I want to emphasize: - Light/Medium Armor - Backstab weapon(s) - Dual Wield weapons - Spells - Rings - Enchants Thanks GodsPoison 11 years ago #2 "Points to the standarized Build topic about halfway down the page" Go there bro, i just posted almost exactly what you are looking for, the Stealth build Ala Dark souls lol.

BS are BS. In DS whenever I get backstabed it is never a legit backstab. It always have to be a facestab, sidestab, or a rollstab. IMO backstabs should be removed in DkS or atleast tighten up the degree you backstab from so you need to be right behind the guy not to his side or face.

Well, you're kinda right but it will make folks mix up playstyles. I mean, if someone has a shield on back, you will need to come up with a different strat than looking for a backstab. It will add some variety to PvE too, provided they add more backstabbing enemies. I picked up the remastered edition a week ago and I've been having fun murdering things and dying repeatedly. But I can't get the hang of…
for a backstab, you basically walk up bhind quietly, press and HOLD R1 and you'll get it, when fighting, you want to riposte. to riposte, use L2 at the right time to DEFLECT the attack with your shield then quickly tap R1 and you'll get a huge damage bonus and a slowdown attack animation. for regular enemies, once you master riposte you can fly thru levels, I used to run naked thru worlds in

Unlike in DkS1. I've played long enough to confirm that you can backstab while holding the shield up. The button is the same as for the standard light attack btw. Probably a left mouse click, but I'm not familiar with K&M controls. Hmmm I tried it out now on the Tutorialbot but it did not work for me.
If you are going to use this method, make sure to use the most powerful one-handed weapon you have for the riposte. After the battle, light the bonfire for the ‘good’ ending.
