Mounts should never be locked behind this much BS, imo, just on principle. It's one thing to do that with a cosmetic look, but mounts fundamentally change how you play the game and, importantly, how easily you are able to keep up with other players in the open world.
The Skyscale is an absolutely fantastic mount. SO comfortable and easy to traverse any type of terrain. Its not a speed mount, its a traversing mount, able to clamber up any damned thing imaginable. Moving around with the Skyscale is extremely forgiving. I'm klutzy and the Skyscale is the ultimate anti-klutz mount!
781. Posted May 29, 2019. The living world chapters often include new stuff that can only be acquired by playing the story. Usually you have to play the first story step to get on the new map. In the latest chapter you can only get the skyscale mount if you completed the story first. That being said, completing the story on a single character
I also get queasy if my camera's not zoomed out quite a bit. That combination makes it very hard to avoid seeing skyscale wings in motion, though I do my best to move aside and rotate my camera. I don't blame people who don't have nausea issues for wanting to hover on their skyscale.

Skyscale takes way too much work to get and as a mount is almost totally worthless. And it's not even fun to use. Have better things to do with my time. Like finishing my legendary armor sets (which ARE worth the effort). If they make some major adjustments to the Skyscale that make it fun and useful then I will continue the journey.
Use the new, easy way to get the mount, which means you'll have to use the old, hard way if you want all bonus features. Or- Use the old, hard way to get the mount (this applies to everyone who already has it), meaning you can easily gain the bonus features the new way. The 2000 gem premium skin changes Skyscale into a more European style dragon with butterfly wings.. and there is one skin in the Skyscale mount pack that does change the shape of the head and horns, the Axejaw.Problem is you need 2000 gems to access either of those skins and if you're unwilling to invest the money or gold then that is a problem.

I got up to riding skyscale without a griffon, rage quit, left for a few months, came back and got warclaw, beetle, and griffon. Then got my skyscale. As someone who did most of the skyscale stuff without a griffon I highly recommend getting the griffon first. It’s even more of a pain in the ass to jump around and get the skyscale eggs
It's listed as a reward for finishing the 'A New Friend' achievement, but yeah it doesn't even show up on the mount preview panel. The skin is from a collection called a new look I got it from the trainer after finishing the skyscale unlock she sent a mail about rifts after speaking with her the collection unlocks.
